Specialist and enthusiastic advice for bassists from a working professional bass player
Pete McGregor is a well known full time professional jazz and rock bassist and band leader.
Pete has been involved in the Entertainment business since the age of 6, and professionally involved since the age of 13 when as a youthful bassist he started working Friday and Saturday nights in dance bands in his home town of Tauranga. In his late teens he was hired to perform 3 nights a week in Rotorua backing touring floor shows. He moved to Auckland in 1969 to pursue a professional musical career.
During periods out of the entertainment industry Pete has been (among other things) a goat farmer, a war games paint ball site manager, a sewing machine retailer, a car dealer/importer.
Returning to full time musician Pete formed his own rock covers band Beats Working and his jazz band All That Jazz and his swing band Prima Swing Riot.
He is also first call bassist for many of Auckland's top jazz band leaders. Working regularly with the Mike Walker Trio..
In 1998 Pete started Pete McGregor Entertainment, (now called PME Entertainment Agents) this operation has now been sold.
Both businesses are operated out of his One Tree Point residence
Pete is married to Yvonne and together they have 3 children and 4 grandchildren
Equipment:
Pete currently uses a circa 1870 Saxony manufactured curved back carved solid wood bass. He favours Thomastik Spirocore Weich strings, and an adjustable bridge. His bass was given a complete makeover recently by Neville Whitehead, Luthier, of Sydney Australia - thanks Neville - great job!
For amplification Pete uses and loves his Wilson adjustable bridge pickup and Pete now uses and endorses Phil Jones Bass Super Flight Case amplifiers on both his Jazz and Rock gigs.
