Good morning New Zealand bassists
About time I added a new blog to update you
Have just returned from a trip to Bucharest Romania where i was performing at The Europafest music Festival in Bucharest for the opening night concert with the Dan Papirany group which included Vibeke Voller a Norwegian vocalist now residing in Australia, Steve Wright from Australia on drums and Dan Papirany from Israel on piano, Dan is now back living in NZ so great to get back together with him to renew our long friendship. We worked together for some years back round 2005.
The festival is a mixture of music of which jazz is but one genre. An honour to be asked to open the festival at Teatrul Odean which is a wonderful old theatre with the main feature of a roll back roof (eat your heart out Aussies - you didn't invent it!)
Our concert went very well and received great ovations from an appreciative audience. Part of the concert was broadcast on Nation Romanian Television
A second concert took place at the Hotel we were staying at.
After our Bucharest stay my wife Yvonne and I hired a rental car and traveled through Transylvania to Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany and eventually Poland before flying back from Warsaw to NZ.
Having just arrived back we are still somewhat effected by the travel as you can imagine.
I took the opportunity to visit several bass shops and manufacturers while on the trip and hopefully good things will come out of those visits. One thing I can advise is that I purchased a wonderful 1897 3/4 Bohemian solid wood bass that we will be importing and offering for sale once it has been overhauled. More on that later.
The Bass Shop has been chugging along and clients appear to like the new web site and particularly the increased information re shipping confirmations and Courier tracking facilities we are now able to offer
